How can I get job in Canada from India without IELTS?
Undoubtedly, Canada always serves as the land of opportunities to its citizens as well as immigrants. So, whether it’s a data scientist or dentist, every professional can easily find a good placement over there. Moreover, as compared to its neighboring countries, work culture in Canada is good. In short, if you are looking for a job vacancy on a foreign land with an appreciable salary package, then you should think about Canada.
Now, the question is without having Canadian citizenship, how does a foreign national can work there?
Well, there are two ways by which any eligible foreign national can work on Canadian soil which includes Permanent Residency visa and Work permit.
-
Permanent Residency Visa:
This visa allows its holder of any nationality to live, study and work anywhere in Canada freely. Its validity is for five years, and after completing three-years of it, a PR can apply for Canadian citizenship. More than 60 immigration programs are available for Canada PR visa. Some of the most popular Canadian immigration programs include Federal Express Entry Program, Quebec Skilled Worker Program, Provincial Nominee Program and more.
Each program has its specific requirements and application process to provide PR. However, some of the common selection factors for PR are age, language proficiency, education, and work experience.
So if you are planning for Permanent residency in Canada, then it becomes mandatory to show a scorecard of language proficiency test like IELTS. IELTS stands for International English language testing system (IELTS). It has four components including, listening, writing, reading and listening to test overall proficiency of an individual in the language.
Format of IELTS:
Test components | Listening | Reading | Writing | Speaking |
Pattern | 40 questions | 40 questions | 2 tasks | 3 parts |
Time duration (in minutes) | 30 | 60 | 60 | 15 |
Almost every immigration program relies on the scorecard of IELTS to determine the eligibility of the candidate for Canadian PR.
For instance, below is the table of Canadian economic immigration streams for PR along with their requirement for CLB level in IELTS:
Eligibility Criteria | FSWC | FSTC | CEC | QSWP |

Work permit:
A work permit is a document which allows a foreign national to work on Canadian soil for a specific job profile for a limited time. It is of three types including, LMIA-required, LMIA-exempted and open work permit
LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment)-required:
To be eligible for a temporary worker in Canada, an aspirant needs to apply for a work permit. For that, he/she needs a copy of positive LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment), LMIA number and a job offer. A positive LMIA shows that an employer can hire any foreign national on the vacant job post which has not been filled by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment)-exempted:
This category does not require LMIA; however, job offer or employment contract is mandatory to get a work permit. International Mobility program enables Canadian employers to hire skilled workers from overseas countries without the need of LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment); however, need to pay employer compliance fee of $230 CAD and provide job offer through IMP employment portal.
Open Work permit:
As the name implies, open work permit visas allow its holder to work for any Canadian employer except those who have failed to comply with Canada’s labor laws and those who offer erotic massages, erotic dance, or escort services. There is no requirement of the job offer in the open work permit. It includes a Post-graduate work permit, International experience work permit, Inland spousal/ common-law sponsorship, and Bridging open work permit.
Eligibility requirements for a work permit:
- An applicant must be in good health
- He/she must not have any criminal record in the past
- He/she must complete a minimum level of education
- He/she must have no intention for working for employers who are listed ineligible
- He/she needs to convince the officer about his/her departure from Canada after the expiry of the work permit visa.
It is worth noting here that, there is no minimum requirement for scorecard of language proficiency test like IELTS for the work permit. However, sometimes, employees may demand the language proficiency test to determine the linguistic knowledge of immigrant. So, if you want a job in Canada, then either you need to apply for Canada PR or work permit. However, without IELTS, a work permit is the best way.
